INATECH – Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering

The Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering INATECH is a newly founded institute of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg. Our vision is to establish the guiding principles in the development of technical systems. Here we present ourselves with excellent research. In the teaching, we train highly qualified engineers who are capable and motivated to shape a sustainable future.

At INATECH we are looking for scientific-engineering solutions in the context of current challenges of sustainable development. Our main fields of competence are sustainable materials, energy systems and resilience. Together with our partners from private and public sectors we do research in interdisciplinary projects to develop methods, models, materials, technologies and technical systems to meet today and future generation's necessity. Our institute consists of an equal partnership of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the Freiburg Fraunhofer-Institutes. This foundation facilitates us to have a large spectrum from doing the basic research until covering the industrial application.

The energy system department are mainly working on the development of system solutions for the secure energy supply by renewable energies, energy efficiency and energy storage.
